Are you feeling drained?

Hi friends,

This week, the theme of energy and how we're using it keeps coming up for me. So many wonderful people I know are tired all the time, depleted of energy and running on fumes. And I get it...there's so much devastation happening in the world and we're being inundated with it daily thanks to the 24-hour news cycle.

On top of that, our society is set up to benefit a small percent of people, while it seems like everyone else is just working away for their gain. But in order for us to be able to make meaningful change in this world, we just can't be exhausted zombies - we need energy to be able to show up fully.

When I reflect on how I get my energy, I notice I become an unlimited well of energy when working on things that light me up (very true to my nature as a Generator in Human Design). I could go on for days when I work on things that excite me. But when I'm working out of obligation? I'm not just drained during the task, I stay drained afterwards.

This realization feels like freedom — a built-in guidance system gives me permission to live the way I want to. And when I dig deeper into why I do things that drain me, it's often out of obligation to what I think others expect from me.

Sometimes I'll pour so much extra work into sugar-coating my words because I don't think people will hear me otherwise, when what I'm actually doing is muddling down my message. When I let go of trying to control how I'm perceived and instead focus just on what excites me, people do hear me.

So this week I invite you to reflect on where your energy is going — and whether you're spending it on things that don't actually serve you.

Here are some prompts to help you get to the bottom of it:

  • What are your energy patterns? When do you feel the most energized? What drains you the most?
  • Where are you pouring energy out of habit rather than alignment? What would happen if you let that go?
  • Is there anything you’re keeping alive (projects, relationships, roles) just because you always have? What’s something you keep doing because it once served you but no longer does?
  • What’s one small boundary your future self would thank you for putting in place this week?

By identifying patterns of what energizes or drains you, you'll be better equipped to notice them in real time. From there, you'll have more control of how your energy flows.

One last thing -
When things feel like too much, remember: you don't have to carry what you can't change. What can you control? Your thoughts and your breath.

If you're looking for a great resource, I highly recommend Dr. Nicole LaPera's book How To Do The Work. It includes breathwork techniques and healing tools that have been instrumental in my own journey. Honestly, I think it should be required reading for everyone.

Until next time...
xo,
Christen

Christen Hong Coaching 8/6/25 Hi friends, Let me know if this sounds familiar:This week I was telling a friend about a TikTok I saw on the upcoming Lion’s Gate Portal (this Friday, 8/8) and how it’s a powerful time to raise your vibration to align with what you want to manifest. She asked, “But how do you actually do that?” And I realized — I’d just had a real-life example. As a Specific Manifestor in Human Design, one of the ways I align with my desires is through clear, focused...

Creativity as a release valve

Christen Hong Coaching 7/30/25 Hi friends, This week, the theme of creative expression has been coming up again and again for me. You too? In Human Design, creative energy is the life-force energy - the raison d'etre. It gives our lives meaning. And it can manifest in so many different ways. Lately, I've been intentionally leaning into things that light me up. I've started noticing which creative endeavors bring me the most joy — even the simple ones. The act of creating just to create has...

Christen Hong Coaching 7/23/25 Hi friends, Tomorrow (Thursday) brings the New Moon in Leo — a powerful time to set intentions around creativity, romance, self-expression, and personal transformation. It may also stir up deep rooted fears around self-worth, visibility, or personal power. If those feelings arise, know that you don’t have to believe them. Acknowledge them as just one thought in a sea of possibilities — they do not define who you are. This week is the perfect time to reconnect...
